In a daring mise en abyme,

Bruno Desroche propels us into the heart of the scenes,

no longer as spectators,

but as actors.

Could the passion of christ be Instagrammable?

By Chares Villeneuve de Janti, conservateur en chef du Patrimoine (chief heritage curator)

The question is not that strange. If we were to wonder what the markers of our time are, media would probably take the central place. As distant we are from Bruegel or Caravaggio, each one of us is a maker of images.

By transposing the Passion into our daily environment, Bruno Desroche goes back to the origins of this practice, initiated by the Franciscans.

Impersonated in the stations of the new Way of the Cross in Saint Nizier, executioners can be seen holding out their mobile phone, in an all-contemporary gesture

This man full of sufferings, will he make us smile or will he make us cry? Do we want to take a snap of him or lend a hand to help him?

Against an unfathomable black background, like a Fayum portrait, the gaze of Jesus waits, for eternity, to meet ours.
